The field application is the final field activity in this Forest Mountaineering course. This field exercise implements everything that has been taught in class and during the course.

It took place from August 13-17, 2023, at South Halimun Mountain. The distance covered was quite long, approximately 100 km on foot from Rumah Mang Oding (the caretaker of Halimun Mountain) in Cirasamala village to Cikakak Beach in Pelabuhan Ratu.

The journey began with the implementation of Land Navigation. On the second day, we practiced survival by consuming survival food and also conducted land navigation. However, in the afternoon, we were hindered by a storm, and three people were injured due to the steep terrain of Halimun Mountain while descending. As a result, we ended the survival exercise at 7:00 PM.

We arrived in the rice field area at the foot of the Batu Mountain around midnight. The terrain was not suitable for passage as it was rocky and not friendly for shoes; consequently, some of my friends’ shoes even broke and were severely damaged while traversing the rocky rice field paths created by locals. On the fourth day, early in the morning, we successfully reached Rumah Bu Jumanta in Sirnarasa village and took a short break to relieve our fatigue.

The next morning, we prepared for a long march from Sirnarasa village to Cikakak Beach. By nightfall, we arrived at the checkpoint, after which we took an exam conducted by the instructors to determine our graduation as mountaineers. The exam was based on the materials previously taught, including Land Navigation, Specific Terrain Conditions, Survival, E-SAR, and Glaciers.

The nighttime view during the long march to Cikakak Beach was quite beautiful, with lights illuminating the southern tip of Java Island along the way. It felt as if our fatigue was rewarded by the beauty of the night sky in southern Java. Upon arriving at Cikakak Beach, we prepared for a ceremony before the inauguration.
