Nested Task

Nested Task is a branching task where within a main task, there are other tasks (Sub Tasks). Nested Task is usually used to classify many similar tasks (Sub Tasks) into a main task. For example, in the case of development activities, where within the development activity, there are many other activities such as creating a database architecture design, creating the front-end view of the application, creating functions and features of the application, and also conducting debug testing. Nested Task is also often referred to as the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) method.

Split Task

Split Task is a function in Microsoft Project where it is used to split a task into smaller parts. In real-world cases, split tasks are often used when there is a delay in an activity, and this delay affects the completion schedule of that activity. For example, in a development or enhancement activity, there might be an unforeseen event causing a freeze in the activity. For instance, during the development process, an unexpected event might occur, such as freezing the development task for creating a database architecture. This might happen because the initially designed architecture plan, created during the design phase, is not mature enough and needs to be redesigned. As a result, the development task for creating the database architecture is frozen and will resume when the redesign of the database architecture is completed.
