Computer Network Lab Work 6
Creating a Static Router Network
Packet Tracer is an application for learning and training, as well as for research in computer network simulation. This program was developed by Cisco Systems and is provided free of charge to faculty, students, and alumni who have participated in the Cisco Networking Academy. The primary goal of Packet Tracer is to provide tools for students and educators to understand the principles of computer networking and to build skills in using Cisco networking tools.
A router is a device that forwards data packets across a network or the Internet to their destinations through a process known as routing. The routing process occurs at Layer 3 (the Network Layer, such as Internet Protocol) of the OSI seven-layer protocol stack. The main function of any router is to connect two or more networks to distribute data packets from one network to another. The default gateway primarily serves as the final option in the route selection process. The default gateway is the ‘default’ choice, meaning ‘the last option if there are no other choices available.’
